Growing Gardens, Growing Community

October 18, 2025 • 8:30am-11am • Quarterman Park

Keep North Charleston Beautiful (KNCB) will partner with community volunteers for a fall plant swap at Quarterman Park (1126 Buist Avenue) on Saturday, October 18 from 8:30am to 11am. This swap’s theme is “Growing Gardens, Growing Community.”

  • Plant drop off will begin at 8:30am. (Event maps for parking and traffic are available further down this page.) Please enter Quarterman Park at the entrance closest to Spruill Avenue (at the intersection of Buist Avenue and Rugheimer Avenue). Follow the signs around the park and turn right on South Boulevard and again on Old Park Road.

Volunteers will be waiting along Old Park Road to help you unload your plants, get you signed in, and give you your tickets for the swap. Remember, each plant you bring = 1 ticket for the swap (up to a max of 25 tickets). Please ensure that all of your plants are labeled with the plant name – common or scientific names are fine! You can drop off our plants and any wagons, carts, etc. at this time. Please be patient if the line backs up a little while volunteers are unloading.

Once you have unloaded everything and signed in, please proceed down Old Park Road to park. You can turn right and re-enter Quarterman Park at the entrance closest to Spruill and park in any of the parking spaces around the park. If these spaces are filled, overflow parking will be available in the outer islands of Park Circle. You will exit Quarterman Park, turn left onto Buist Avenue, and turn left onto Park Place. There will be signs designating the areas for overflow parking.

You must check in between 8:30am-9:30am to receive your tickets for the swap. After 9:30am, event volunteers will be organizing plants by type and getting the plant stations ready for the swap.

After parking, meet us back in the plant swap area for a “Taste of Park Circle” brunch with light refreshments. There will also be an “Ask a Master Gardener” station set up to answer all of your garden questions! (They will remain set up through the end of the swap.)

We will do a welcome and introduction, followed by a short raffle at 9:45am. You must be present to win! We have some great plants and prizes that have been donated by many generous local vendors!

The swap will start at 10am! You can select one plant for each ticket you received at check-in. After you have finalized your plant selections, head back to the check-in table to check-out with your plants and tickets. You can also browse our seed swap and cuttings table after checking out. These items are available for free and will not require a ticket. If you need to drive your car back around to load up your new plants, please let an event volunteer know so they can watch your plants while you are picking up your car.

  • How many plants can I bring to the swap?

The short answer is as many as you'd like! You will receive one ticket per plant that you bring, and each ticket can be redeemed for another plant. You will receive a maximum of 25 tickets, but please feel free to bring additional plants if you'd like.

    What time should I arrive?

Sign-in and plant drop off will take place from 8:30-9:30am. This gives our volunteers time to get the plants sorted into different sections before the swap starts at 10. You need to drop off your plants before 9:30am to be able to redeem them for tickets.

  • We are still in need of volunteers and event sponsors. Email us at kncbsc@gmail.com to find out how you can get involved!
